The First (baby) Steps into Mediumship Starts Here

Writer: MadHawkMadHawk

I think I’ll use this entry to talk about some of the things I used to really start my journey with spirit, and my own general experience. Please keep in mind that every single one of us has our own path, and none of them will be the same. What worked for me may not be what works for you. Feel free to tweak what I did to be more of what you need. Above all, allowing spirit to lead has been the biggest factor.

This process of spiritual awakening with regards to mediumship is called UNFOLDMENT. How it was explained to me, is to imagine a small flower bud, gently begin to open. It can’t be rushed, and it can’t be stopped; each bud taking their own time to fully open. That’s how this journey has been for me. The most amazing and frustrating moments in my life have been overcoming the challenges of working with Spirit.

I started with connecting to my highest guide. It’s important to note that you usually don’t have only one guide, it’s usually a team of a few to MANY, working behind the scenes to keep you on the path you chose before your soul ever arrived on earth. I’ll talk more about guides another time.

When you begin seeking out your guide, you want to know names. You want to have that meeting where you meet them like an old friend. For some people, that’s exactly what happens, but this was not the case for me. They do have names, but it’s not really important that YOU know them. In fact, the name may not be one you can understand or pronounce—but our human brains won't settle for that, and it continues to be a question we ask over and over. Who are you? What is your name? In these cases, they will give you a name to call them. It may take a few meditation sessions to get that from them, because we are like babies in this realm, with so much to learn. The name is not important, and sometimes they will ask you to give them a nickname that is meaningful to you. This is a private conversation, something that is part of a growing relationship. You can ask a medium to give you that name, but I like the more personal connection of meeting them and allowing that to come naturally. You’ll know it’s right, because it will simply feel right.

How does one go about meeting their team? I tried many things, and it loaded me up with the pressure of expectation, and that formed a block. I became so fixated that I couldn’t relax enough to allow the over-thinking part of my brain to be still, and it over powered everything coming from the spirit world, including my guiding team. I had to take the logical way to problem solve this, because that’s how my brain works. I began reading all I could about spirit guides, and how other people connect. I knew my experiences would be different, but a vague idea to help me know what to look for was all I needed.

Here are the books I found to be of the most value. You may find them at your local library, or as an e-book or printed book for purchase.

Browne, Sylvia. Contacting Your Spirit Guide, with CD, Hay House, 2002.

**This book explains spirit guides in a simple and beautiful way. You don’t need the CD to enjoy this book. I always recommend this as a first book because it was the one that opened my eyes to what the other side might be like. Her introduction to the spirit world resonated deeply with me, and it felt like coming home. Please let me know your thoughts about this book.

Roman, Sanaya and Packer, Duane. Opening to Channel, How to Connect with Your Guide, HJ Kramer, 1993.

**This book is actually information and lessons channeled from guides Orin and DaBen. Chapter 7 is forever bookmarked for me and remembered as the very first time I was able to use their techniques and connect. I had asked to be touched on my shoulders, as confirmation. That’s exactly what happened. I can’t ever truly describe what I saw, and what happened that day, but I know that’s when a part of my mind unlocked, and a real tangible connection was made.

Once I made this connection to my team, I began to crave it. I looked for guided meditations, I looked for anything I could get my hands on. The website I liked best is one I will link below. This woman explains things in a totally different way, so it may be the key that YOU need to finally unlock things for you.

Liah Howard webinars are free, and can be found here: https://liahhoward.com/webinars

I really enjoyed her energy and learning from her. She breaks things down beginning with understanding intuition. They are time consuming, but if you think of it as a time you plan to set aside for meditation, you’ll appreciate every moment you spend with these classes.

That’s enough information for now. I hope you’ll check into the resources I have listed if it’s calling you. Just remember, none of this happens over night, nothing is instant. Unfoldment takes as long as your team feels it needs to take. You can’t speed it up, but if it’s meant to be, you also can’t stop it. (I don’t know why anyone would want to) You are meant to ENJOY THE PROCESS. Everything matters, every next step builds on the things you do right now—the choices you make. I hope you’ll let me know how things go for you.

Much love,

MadHawk
